Bandai Namco have just announced Dragon Ball: The Breakers, which is a take on the Dead By Daylight formula. Dragon Ball: The Breakers is an eight-player online survival multiplayer title where seven normal survivors will try to survive against Raider. They’ve been sucked into a “Temporal Stream” and don’t have any superpowers, which sounds like a really bad time. All is not lost, as there will be power-up items, weapons, and pilotable vehicles that players can use to search for the Super Time Machine and escape Raider.
While it is interesting that Dragon Ball is aping the Dead By Daylight formula, it isn’t surprising. Dragon Ball has been around for a long time and has just just about anything from T.V. shows, movies, video games, and card games. Basically, I haven’t watched any Dragon Ball or consumed any content related to the series before, but this sounds so gleefully insane that I might check out the beta if I can get into it.
Speaking of Dragon Ball: The Breakers, anyone planning to play play as Raider will be able to choose from Cell, Buu, or Frieza and “amass overwhelming power” in typical Dragon Ball fashion to destroy the Survivors. Hopefully it doesn’t like three episodes in order to do so.
“The Dragon Ball series has been a global fan favorite for over 37 years and Dragon Ball: The Breakers takes the classic over-the-top action formula and offers an innovative twist with its online survival gameplay,” said Lin Leng, Senior Director of Brand Marketing at Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. “Both new players and long-time fans can expect an extremely fun and engaging experience; whether playing as a Raider hunting down fellow gamers or as a Survivor, playing cooperatively to team-up against an iconic rival.”
Dragon Ball: The Breakers will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2022. A Closed Beta Test will launch on PC soon, with more details forthcoming.
