The Surviving the Aftermath 1.0 Update has finally arrived, adding a Main Quest and reworking several core systems for Iceflake Studios and Paradox Interactive’s survival colony sim.
Surviving the Aftermath was first announced as an Epic Games Store exclusive back in 2019; it subsequently debuted on Steam late last year. Since then, an Expansion Pass has been announced and the devs locked in the 1.0 release date for November 16, 2021. That day has now arrived — and it’s brought with it a whole bunch of changes and improvements to the game.
What’s New in the Surviving the Aftermath 1.0 Update?
The first major addition in the Surviving the Aftermath 1.0 Update is a new Main Quest that will “guide you through a story of survival.” This Main Quest won’t prevent Side Quests from appearing as they have in previous versions. Should you complete it, you’ll be able to continue playing the game with only Winter as a possible catastrophe.
Gate Combat has been reintroduced to the game alongside an improved UI for the feature. The Gate’s level is much more important than before, and you won’t be able to slack on defenses, either — Bandits will get tougher over time. Your Gate guards also run the risk of injury during combat.
The Surviving the Aftermath 1.0 Update features reworks of several other systems, too. For example, the Malnutrition system will ensure that a colonist will not get the effect again right after healing from it. However, Malnutrition is much more dangerous and can eventually kill affected colonists. Adding to this is a rework of the Food Storage building, allowing you to better organize your food (and hopefully prevent the aforementioned Malnutrition debuff).
Several UI improvements, a complete rework of the Help menu, and more have arrived with this update; you can read about all of the changes in the full Surviving the Aftermath 1.0 Update patch notes. If you have a hankering to build a town in the post-apocalypse, you can buy Surviving the Aftermath on PC and consoles starting at $29.99 or your regional equivalent via its official website.
