Beavis and Butt-Head is one of the most iconic franchises of the 90s. It inspired countless different shows, as well as having a pretty impressive run of 8 seasons, with at least another 2 on the way (at some point). Clearly, there is something quite enduring about two teenage idiots sitting in front of the TV and calling each other names. Well, if you’ve ever wanted to re-live that experience with an entire group of other people, then you’re in luck. Beavis and Butt-Head: The Great Cornholio Game sets out to capture the anarchy, vulgarity, and stupidity of its source material, and succeeds in a way that almost no other licensed game could ever hope to do.
How Do You Play Beavis and Butt-Head: The Great Cornholio Game?
Beavis and Butt-Head: The Great Cornholio Game is an easy-to-learn party-style game for pretty much any amount of players. You shuffle the cards, place one face up, then split the rest equally amongst all the players face down to give them each a deck to draw from. At that point, you countdown together from 3, shout go, and just start drawing cards. The goal of the game is to discard all of your cards, and you do this by playing them onto the card in the center. It’s a bit like Uno, each card has two letters. You have to draw a card with an insult that starts with one of those two letters, then play it as you shout it out.
And, that’s pretty much it. The entire gameplay of The Great Cornholio game is shouting insults at each other while you all madly draw cards to try and find something playable. There are a few extra rules that spice things up though. There are the obvious wild cards that all of these sorts of games have, but there are also cards that are more thematically appropriate for the show. For example, Quit Wackin’ Off stops play while the person who played it deals out three of their cards however they’d like. Then there’s the Great Cornholio card that forces everyone to race each other in performing an impression of the character from the show while standing up. All players except the last one to do the action may discard a single card each.
That’s the entire ruleset for Beavis and Butt-Head: The Great Hornholio Game, and despite its simplicity, it’s sort of brilliant. The game does an insanely good job of capturing the anarchy and vulgarity of the show. It’s basically you and your friends just swearing at each other. It’s exactly the sort of game that the titular characters would have a great time playing. What’s even better about it is the fact that you can play it pretty much anywhere. You need barely any room to fit it in, it’s easy to set up and put away, and it takes about 30 seconds for anyone to learn the rules. The only slight downside to playing the game is the fact that it does technically require you to yell obscenities quite loudly, so probably avoid playing it near any elementary schools.
For sure, Beavis and Butt-Head The Great Cornholio Game is a game that won’t appeal to everyone. If you’re not a fan of the original cartoon, or of low-brow humor in general, then you’re probably going to find this game beneath you. However, if you’re mad into the idea of a simple party game that you can teach in under 1 minute and will have you and your friends drunkenly yelling obscenities at each other in a socially sanctioned context then you’re probably not going to get that anywhere else.
What Are Our Final Thoughts On Beavis and Butt-Head: The Great Cornholio Game?
While there’s not a lot of depth here, that only really makes sense considering the series the game is based on. If you enjoy party games but hate how it takes more than 10 seconds to understand them, then you won’t find a better option. Of course, if you’re dead set against calling your friend a ‘Butt Ventriloquist’.
