Nintendo has revealed the Splatoon 3 release date. The multiplayer arena shooter is coming to Nintendo Switch this September, bringing with it a host of new and returning maps, weapons, gameplay modes, and plenty more besides.
When is the Splatoon 3 release date?
It’s been more than a year since Splatoon 3 was originally announced during a Nintendo Direct presentation, but we now know when we’ll be able to play it. The Splatoon 3 release date is September 9th, so mark that on your calendar if you’re excited to get stuck into some good old-fashioned family-friendly squid murdering. To mark the release date, Nintendo also released a brand new trailer showing off the 4v4 Turf War mode, which looks pretty similar to previous Splatoon games. You can check it out below.
The trailer shows off the brand new Eeltail Alley stage, as well as a new bow-style Stringer weapon that lets you fire ink in different directions. You can also get a glimpse of some brand new gear that’s coming to the game, letting you outfit your Inkling with even more customization options. As well as these new additions, Splatoon 3 will also feature a full story campaign set in the new land of Alterna, as well as an updated version of the Salmon Run horde-style mode and plenty more.
How are things looking for Nintendo?
Right now, Nintendo’s upcoming slate is looking promising, if a little barren. The Xenoblade Chronicles 3 release date was recently unveiled, with Monolith Soft’s upcoming JRPG launching earlier than expected. That news, and the reveal of the Splatoon 3 release date, should go a little way towards taking the sting out of the tail of Nintendo’s Breath of the Wild sequel delay. That’s in addition to recently-released titles like Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which is performing pretty well in terms of reviews and sales.
You can pre-order Splatoon 3 right now via the Nintendo eShop, should you wish to. In addition to announcing the release date for the game, Nintendo also revealed that you can now play the Octo Expansion DLC for Splatoon 2 at no extra cost if you’re a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack member. Make sure to head back into Splatoon 2 if you haven’t checked that out yet. We’ll bring you more on Splatoon 3 and Nintendo’s future plans for its lineup as soon as we get it.
