Phasmophobia Update Lets You Set Your Own Difficulty

A brand new Phasmophobia update has arrived, and it’s a big one. If you’ve been clamoring for the ability to set your own difficulty in the game, then this new update is for you, as it adds custom difficulty modifiers, as well as new locations, alterations to ghost behaviors, and more.

What does this new Phasmophobia update offer?

The new Phasmophobia update, titled “Apocalypse”, represents version 0.7 of the game, and as you’d expect from a fairly major increment like that, it’s bringing some big stuff. Unlike previous updates, this one’s not adding any new ghosts, but it does bring the Asylum update that Phasmophobia developer Kinetic Games teased back in May.

First up, though, you’re getting new custom difficulty modifiers, allowing you to make your own rules. You can change parameters like starting sanity and sprint duration for players, as well as stats for ghosts and your contracts. You can save up to three Phasmophobia custom difficulty modifier presets in the main menu, too, so you can revisit them whenever you like.

The new Camp Woodwind location in the latest Phasmophobia update will be unlocked when you hit level 19.

The new custom difficulty modifiers aren’t all you’re getting in this Phasmophobia update, though. There are also new locations, including a reworked Asylum with new room designs and distinctive areas. Since the new Asylum is so big, you’ll also be able to decide whether you want to play in smaller play areas, with random sections becoming available each time you choose the “Restricted” version of the Asylum. A smaller version of the Maple Lodge Campsite, called Camp Woodwind, will also now be unlocked at level 19.

New ghost behaviors have also been added, with ghosts becoming more violent when throwing objects to add more spookiness to proceedings. Some abilities have been moved around to emphasize the theming for certain ghosts, too. You’ll also find new player reporting tools, a new office to serve as your base of operations, and lots more. It’s well worth reading through the latest Phasmophobia patch notes, as there are countless balance changes and additions that are worth knowing if you’re a regular ghost hunter.

You can grab Phasmophobia right now on Steam, where it’s in Early Access. The game will set you back just $13.99, making it ideal for a few scary nights alongside some friends, especially as Halloween draws nearer.
