The Mortuary Assistant Movie To Bring Popular Indie Horror To the Silver Screen

As if the video game wasn’t scary enough, The Mortuary Assistant movie is now in the works, with writer and director Jeremiah Kipp at the helm. This movie could be both phenomenal and absolutely terrifying all at once.

The Mortuary Assistant game blew up almost instantly during its early access release. Eventually, it became one of the top 10 streamed games on Twitch and even became a best-selling Steam game for quite some time. The game is not as simple as one might think. There are plenty of objectives to complete, as you are put into the shoes of Rebecca Owens, who just scored an overnight position as a mortuary assistant at River Fields Mortuary. While she believes she will just be embalming bodies, and wiring jaws shut, soon she realizes there is something sinister going on.

As you start to complete tasks and perform your duties, some pretty creepy stuff starts to go down, and the game doesn’t just slowly lead up to these spooks either. It hits the ground running, where almost instantly, you get a vision of yourself hanging and burning alive down the hall. The more tasks you perform, the more scares occur. Soon, you realize that the game isn’t about embalming corpses, but banishing a demon who is attempting to possess you and kill the head of the mortuary. Why exactly did this happen? Well, your boss ended up bringing in a body that was possessed by a malevolent spirit with a thirst for violence, and now it is your job to continuously exorcize the demon from the body it decides to take on, or the entire town will be at risk of possession.

The Mortuary Assistant video game creator, Brian Clarke made a few statements in regards to this film adaptation, where he states,

“It’s such a rare and exciting opportunity to have your work adapted into film. It’s certainly something I never imagined would happen to me when I started developing the game two years ago. Movies have always been the main inspiration for the style of my games. I’m always trying to create story, dialogue, and moments that feel filmic, so an opportunity to bring this project full circle is making a dream of mine a reality.”

The Mortuary Assistant game is available now via Steam for $24.99. As of right now, there is no date set for the release of the movie, but we will continue to update as this story develops.
