If you’re looking forward to the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, there’s a lot of good news on that front. To start, Pawel Sasko, the quest designer for Cyberpunk 2077, has announced that after the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, his team will be moving onto Cyberpunk 2077 sequel Orion (its current codename). Sasko’s moving to Boston with the “core team responsible for Cyberpunk 2077” to create a new studio and establish a North American team. This means that CD Projekt Red developers from Warsaw, Vancouver, and Boston will be developing the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
Future CD Projekt Red plans
That’s not all, either. Yesterday, CD Projekt Red tweeted out their plans for the future alongside a video showcasing their development process and upcoming slate. This slate includes a new IP called Project Hadar, as well as lots of Witcher content. How much content? Well, we’re getting a new AAA RPG trilogy, as well as two projects codenamed Sirius and Canis Majoris.
Project Sirius is said to be an “innovative take on the Witcher universe”, and it’s currently in the pre-production stage. It’ll feature multiplayer gameplay, but there will also be a full single-player campaign. More than 60 developers from CDPR-supported studio The Molasses Flood are currently working on the project. If you haven’t heard of The Molasses Flood, it’s a CD Projekt subsidiary based in Boston. Its previous projects include The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow.
Project Polaris will be the first entry in the new Witcher trilogy. It’s currently in the pre-production stage and has a hefty team of developers working on it. While this likely means the game is pretty far out, the trilogy aims to release within a six-year period, which isn’t too bad. It’s also using Unreal Engine 5, and it’ll be interesting to see how CD Projekt Red makes use of that technology.
As for Canis Majoris, it’s a story-driven, single-player open-world RPG set within the Witcher universe. It’s being created by a third-party studio led by ex-Witcher veterans, which is promising. That’s literally all we know about it, so we’ll have to wait and see. It might be one of the several studios formed by former CDPR veterans, or it could be an entirely new outfit.
Perhaps most interesting is Project Hadar, the first new IP from CD Projekt Red. It’s been in development at the studio since late 2021, and it’s currently at the concept stage, with a small team working on fleshing out the setting. This is a very early announcement, and it wouldn’t surprise me if we’re in for a long wait for more Hadar info.
