The Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Steam Workshop has gone live. This is a feature that’s been long awaited by Bannerlord players, as the game has been out on Steam’s Early Access program for over 2.5 years at this point, but the integration is here at last.
Given that the Bannerlord Steam Workshop has only been out for a few hours, there aren’t many mods out there yet. That doesn’t mean there’s nothing worth downloading, though. One mod that might see a lot of usage is Improved Garrison, which “aims to improve the management of your castles and settlements.” What does that mean? Basically, you’ll be able to configure each Castle or Settlement individually while also activating and deactivating the mod whenever you want, which is pretty nice.
Interestingly, even without Steam Workshop support there have been some mods announced and released for Bannerlord. Perhaps the most intriguing is the RTS mod that turns Bannerlord into Age of Empires. As you’d expect, it’s an extremely unique mod that understandably has some issues and general bugginess due to the genre shift, but the fact that it’s real and works is a promising sign of potential things to come for Bannerlord‘s modding scene.
All told, Bannerlord‘s modding scene has a lot to live up to. Its predecessor, Mount & Blade: Warband, had many mods that has helped the game endure in the 12 years since its release. For instance, Mount & Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars was a genuinely fantastic addon that first began as the Mount and Musket – Battalion mod. There are plenty of other mods that went on to great success and fanfare, such as The Last Days of The Third Age of Middle Earth mod that does an incredible job of converting Warband to Lord of the Rings.
As for what you can expect in the future for Bannerlord, expect to see lots of content. With Steam Workshop and more content, hopefully, we’ll have more to do soon.
