The Witcher Remake Announced by CD Projekt Red

To celebrate Witcher Day, CD Projekt Red has just announced The Witcher Remake, which is the original game in The Witcher series being rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. The game is being developed by Polish studio Fool’s Theory, which has CD Projekt Red “providing full creative supervision” and veteran Witcher staff involved with the production.

Fool’s Theory is composed of a lot of ex-CD Projekt Red developers who have also contributed to titles such as Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Outriders, Baldur’s Gate III, and more, so they do have their bona fides when it comes to remaking a beloved RPG such as The Witcher. That doesn’t mean that it’s guaranteed to be a success, but I think it’s fair to say that there’s a better chance it’ll be decent at the very least.

The Witcher Remake will look much better than this.

The upcoming The Witcher remake was originally unveiled under the codename “Canis Majoris”, which you might already know from an earlier announcement that detailed CD Projekt Red’s upcoming projects. Previously, all we knew was that Canis Majoris would be a “story-driven, single-player open-world RPG set within the Witcher universe… being created by a third-party studio led by ex-Witcher veterans”, which is all technically true. It’s still very early going, so there isn’t much to talk about the remake besides the fact that it’s in development and that it exists.

Despite that, we can all probably agree that the romance cards won’t be making a return in The Witcher Remake, right? Geralt can make notches on his bed post like the rest of the world. He doesn’t have make a bunch of playing cards like some sort of weirdo.
