A Majestic Buster Sword Christmas Tree Carving FFVII Fans Didn’t Know They Needed

It’s time to get really merry and really bright, because something we never thought would exist now does; The wood carving of the iconic Buster Sword from Final Fantasy Crisis Core, but with a magnificent twist.

As a massive Final Fantasy fan myself, I can say with no doubt in my mind this is one of the coolest ways to kick off the holidays I have ever witnessed. Renowned UK-based tree sculptor, Simon O’Rourke, has created a piece that we won’t soon forget. Taking over 30 long hours, he painstakingly carved and sculpted the Buster Sword from Final Fantasy Crisis Core into a Christmas Tree. You would be lying if you said every long-time fan of the franchise did not want this piece of art in their living room right now. It would never leave the room, who cares what time of year it is?

To create this piece, O’Rourke used a Blue Atlantic Cedar tree that had fallen earlier in the year, and he assumes it was due to a common fungal disease that is local to the area the tree was found. Taking something that some would discard or use as mere firewood, he created a display of LED lights and pure passion that will be on his front lawn for all to see this month. In regard to this art piece, O’Rourke stated,

“I’ve been waiting in anticipation for months to showcase to the world my homage to the Buster Sword, and I hope the fans of the franchise will feel that I’ve done the video game justice! With the release of CRISIS CORE –FINAL FANTASY VII– REUNION on December 13th, I thought I would surprise my family with a Christmas tree with a difference. I spoke to SQUARE ENIX and we collaborated to bring my vision of the tree to life.”

This sculpture truly is one of a kind, and I believe it may in fact be one of the coolest and most unique Christmas trees I have ever had the pleasure to lay my eyes upon. With that said, Square Enix really meant it when they said this was “A Sight For Sword Eyes”.
