Japanese Shin Megami Tensei Card Game To Return Next Year

A retro Shin Megami Tensei trading card game is making a triumphant return next year in order to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary. The card game was only ever released in Japanese, and while the cards still won’t be translated into English in this new release, it’ll give you the chance to own it without importing it.

As reported by Nintendo Wire, the Shin Megami Tensei card game was originally released in 1997 and ran for nine editions, finishing its print run in the mid-2000s. Now, Bandai Namco is reviving the card game, and pre-orders for it are open as we speak (or write, as the case may be).

Shin Megami Tensei Trading Card Game: Monument of Reincarnation, to give it its full title, will set you back $150 on the Bandai Namco store. It comes complete with 125 cards, as well as a poster, a storage box, and a nine-pocket binder for your cards. If you’re a collector or a Shin Megami Tensei enthusiast, this looks like an essential purchase.

Five of the redesigned cards for the Shin Megami Tensei TCG
Many of the cards in the Shin Megami Tensei TCG have been redesigned.

This specific collection revolves around the Monument of Goddess set, which was sold in the early 2000s, and the cards in the collection will consist of redesigned cards from that era. You’ll also find new cards based on last year’s record-breaking Shin Megami Tensei V, although those cards, like the rest of the set, will be exclusively in Japanese.

If you do decide to pick this card game up, you can expect your order to ship around August next year. Pre-orders are open right now, so make sure to place yours if you want to secure a copy. You’ve got until February 26th to do so. It’s pretty clear this is a collector’s set from the price and range of extra goodies included, as well as the fact that the cards aren’t in English, but it’s a pretty neat curio for Shin Megami Tensei fans nonetheless.
