Today, during Sony’s press conference at CES in Las Vegas, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan had news to share about the upcoming PlayStation VR2.
We learn that the headset will receive over thirty games during its launch window and among them, we’re getting Gran Turismo 7 via a free upgrade that will be made available when PlayStation VR2 releases. Ryan promised that users will be able to “experience the game like never before.”
Another very relevant VR game is coming to Sony’s new headset, Beat Saber by Beat Games. Ryan defined it as a “VR game that defines the medium” likely appropriately, given the game’s popularity and role in the adoption and popularization of virtual reality.
We hear that the game is currently in development, but no specific information has been revealed on when it’ll release. The developer itself commented on social media but did not add anything beyond what Ryan said on stage. We’ll have to wait for further information down the line.
Of course, we’ll let you know about a possible release window as soon as more information is shared. Speaking of release windows, Ryan’s wording about the thirty games was specifically “launch window” which likely means that not all of them may be available exactly on release day.
PlayStation VR2 will launch globally on February 22, priced at $549.99 / £529.99/ €599.99 depending on where you live. Among its launch games, Sony will release Horizon Call of the Mountain, a spin-off of Guerrilla Games’ popular action-adventure franchise that was announced exactly a year ago at Sony’s CES press conference in 2022.
The headset comes with OLED displays capable of rendering games at 2000 x 2040 resolution per eye and 90Hz or 120Hz refresh rate.
During the same conference, Sony announced that the PS5 passed 30 million units sold worldwide, announced the Project Leonardo accessibility-focused controller, and showcased the first trailer o the Gran Turismo movie.
