Sakura Wars 2 Fan Translation Announced

Today, the team behind the fan translation of the original Sakura Wars announced that it’s working on its sequel Sakura Wars 2: Thou Shalt Not Die.

The game, which was originally launched on Sega Saturn in 1998, continues the story of the heroines of the Flower Division of the Imperial Combat Revue and their commander, Ichiro Ogami, in the series’ alternate version of the Taisho period. 

Most of the translation part of the fan translation process, helmed by NoahSteam, has been completed, and the team has been at work since the summer of 2021. The translation of the first game of the series has been available since 2019 and received a second and final patch in 2021.

Unfortunately, following the release of the newest chapter of the Sakura Wars series for PS4 in 2019 (2020 in the west), that revived the franchise after 15 years of inactivity, Sega has remained mum about the possibility of continuing the series with more games. The spectacular commercial flop and shutdown of the mobile game (which no one asked for) Sakura Kakumei: Hanasaku Otome-tachi dampened the fans’ hopes to see more games set in the series’ charming alternate world. 

It’s good to see the fan translation community keep the torch lit. Hopefully, Sega itself will return to the series at some point, but until then, we’ll have something shiny to play in Englisgh thanks to NoahSteam’s team.
