Sony Shares New Horizon Call Of The Mountain Story Info

We’re just a few weeks out from the release of PSVR 2 and launch title Horizon Call of the Mountain, and Sony has taken to its blog to explain a little more about the game’s protagonist Ryas. He’s a dishonored soldier who must atone for his past crimes by assisting Sun-King Avad with “a new threat”.

PlayStation VR 2 arrives on February 22nd, and it’s bringing Horizon Call of the Mountain with it. As you’d expect, we’re getting more and more info about Guerrilla’s game in the run-up to its release, and now, a new PlayStation Blog post is dishing the details on protagonist Ryas.

The post first goes into a little Horizon lore. The Carja Sundom was beset by a series of brutal attacks called the Red Raids, which caused Mad Sun-King Jiran to be overthrown by his own son, Avad. After this, the Carja tribe split into two, with one faction remaining loyal to Jiran and the other swearing fealty to Avad.

This is Hami, one of the new characters you’ll meet in Horizon Call of the Mountain.

As you’ve probably guessed, Ryas was originally on Jiran’s side, being part of the tribe known as the Shadow Carja. He must atone for his past crimes by assisting Avad and Blameless Marad with a new threat. In return, he’ll gain his freedom. Narrative director Ben McCaw says that although Ryas was a Shadow Carja warrior, he was “on the wrong side for the right reasons”.

As you play through the game as Ryas, you’ll encounter characters with whom you’ll have fractious and contentious relationships. These include Hami, a warrior who fights for Sun-King Avad. Hami is a quick-tempered fighter who bears a grudge against the Shadow Carja, and as you’d expect, Ryas will be paired with her at one stage, so you’ll get to see their interactions and learn more about the game’s world through them.

McCaw says Ryas was a necessary step for the game. Since Horizon Call of the Mountain has been “built…from the ground up” for PSVR 2, it needed a new protagonist, which is why you’re no longer playing as Aloy. However, given that Ryas is a “master climber, archer, and hunter”, you’ll probably be using a few familiar skills throughout the game.

Horizon Call of the Mountain launches exclusively for PSVR 2 on February 22nd. If you want to play it, you’re also going to need a PS5, as the PSVR 2 headset won’t be playable standalone. Stay tuned to TechRaptor for more info on this game and all things PSVR 2.
