Today Sega released another trailer of its upcoming mobile JRPG 404 Game Re:Set, directed by NieR creator Yoko Taro.
The trailer introduces another of the girls who will be playable in the game, Virtua Fighter. Like Out Run, After Burner, and Virtua Cop, for whom we already saw trailers, she’s basically the waifu version of the once-popular Virtua Fighter fighting game franchise.
She is voiced by Fairouz Ai, who is the voice of Jolyne Cujoh in the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series, Celis Ortesia and Ashen Lu in the Legend of Heroes series, and Yunaka in Fire Emblem Engage.
If you’re familiar with Japanese games and media, you likely won’t be too surprised by this concept of turning everything into girls. Japan’s pop culture has brought us catgirls, shipgirls, airplane girls, horsegirls, game console girls… and now we get video game girls. With Yoko Taro at the helm, we can expect this and more.
You can check out the trailer below.
If you’re unfamiliar with 404 Game Re:Set, also known as Error Game Reset, it’s an upcoming mobile JRPG born of a partnership between Sega and Yoko Taro recently announced after a mysterious tease portraying a dystopian version of the world.
It’s for iOS and Android and free-to-play, which means that it also comes with the inevitable gacha, which explains why Sega is taking its beloved franchises like Out Run, After Burner, Virtua Cop, and Virtua Fighter, and turning them into waifus you can unlock.
They will form a resistance against a distorted world in which Sega itself has taken over. It’s Yoko Taro all right. At the moment, a western release for this game has not been announced. We’ll see if Sega will decide to bring it over down the line.
