Deep Rock Galactic is celebrating its fifth anniversary in March, and as you might expect, Ghost Ship Games has some goodies lined up for faithful fans. There’s an event on the horizon, but there’s an even more special surprise in store, especially if you’ve got any nostalgia for the original Early Access release of the game.
Since its launch into Early Access back in 2018, Deep Rock Galactic has cycled through numerous content seasons, with the latest adding new missions, gear, and tools to play with. Next month’s update is a little special, though; to celebrate the game turning five, Ghost Ship says it’ll be adding “Space Rig decoration, rewards, and botched Longbeard Freight deliveries” starting from March 2nd. More details will be revealed soon.
Perhaps more excitingly, the Deep Rock Galactic anniversary update will add the ability to play the original release of Deep Rock Galactic in all its slightly janky Early Access glory. It’s not too dissimilar to the release of Minecraft Classic a few years ago, so if you want to revisit Deep Rock Galactic‘s humble beginnings, you’ll be able to do so very soon.
The aforementioned update and old-school Deep Rock Galactic release will be free if you own the game, but there’s also some paid DLC on the way. Ghost Ship says it’s received a lot of requests from players to help support the game, so in that spirit, the dev is releasing the Supporter II Upgrade DLC, which is a “decadent, most luxurious, most supportive” cosmetic pack with some solid gold gear up for grabs.
Ghost Ship is promising “a couple more supply pods of information” between now and March 2nd, when the anniversary content arrives, so we’ll learn more about what’s coming soon. In addition, the devs have assured fans that “we are not slowing down on Deep Rock Galactic“; in fact, the studio says it’s “never been as busy” with making new content for the game as it is now.
You can pick up Deep Rock Galactic right now on PC via Steam, as well as on PlayStation and Xbox.
