Nintendo Direct Alarms Police in California due to “Perceived Threat” to Get Class Canceled

Today the Cal State Fullerton Police Department from Fullerton, California, tweeted a notice from acting chief of police Scot Willey, and believe it or not, it’s related to today’s Nintendo Direct.

The notice mentions that last night the police department was made aware of what was perceived as a vague threat received by a professor at the local university. The threat urged the professor to cancel class “for the good of humanity” due to a “once-in-a-lifetime event.”

The department spent hours investigating before they finally learned that the precise date and time referenced by the message matched the airing of today’s Nintendo Direct at 2:00 pm PST. Apparently, they either don’t employ Nintendo fans, or none was on shift last night.

The individual who sent the original message then reached out to the professor admitting that it was a bad prank related to the Nintendo Direct. Yet, since the police department is required to take threats of any kind seriously, they’re still going to send additional officers to the campus today alongside the K9 team. If you’re not familiar with it, that’s the way police usually refers to its canine squad.

While we don’t know what today’s Nintendo Direct will reveal, many definitely tend to take this kind of event pretty seriously. Perhaps some do take it a bit too seriously. I suppose we’ll see later today whether the announcements were worth getting in trouble with the local police department for. Let’s hope we at least get a release date for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

You can read the full notice from acting chief Scot Willey below. Whether you find it hilarious or concerning, your mileage may vary.
