Today Cygames hosted the 9th-anniversary livestream of Granblue Fantasy and revealed the gameplay of Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising’s first new character.
We already knew from the previous event that the new character is Anila, but today we get to see her gameplay, and it’s as fluffy as you would expect from the Divine General associated with the year of the Ram.
For now, the trailer features only Anila’s Japanese voice, Aoi Yuuki, a star-level actress who played Futaba in Persona 5, Pascal in NieR: Automata, Renne Bright in The Lend of Heroes series, Lumine in Genshin Impact, Lysithea in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Yuuki in the Sword Art Online series, and many more.
Yet, we already know that her English voice actress is Leona Renee, a localization professional responsible for helping bring a metric ton of Japanese games to the west, including many by Nihon Falcom. She’s also a big Granblue Fantasy fan.
We also learn that the next trailer will be released on April 2 during EVO Japan. Said trailer will reveal the second new character that will be included in the game.
You can check out the trailer below. Incidentally, fans of a certain SNK character may find a couple of clear homages in the video.
Anila is described as a polearm-using all-rounder able to unleash a variety of projectiles, anti-air strikes, and rush-down attacks. She has a powerful set of tools that can be used by players of all skill levels.
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is releasing worldwide for PS5, PS4, and PC in 2023. If you’d like to see more, you can enjoy the original reveal and previous screenshots and details.
Incidentally, at least at the moment of this writing, no further news was shared about the action JRPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink at the 9th-anniversary livestream. We’ll keep an eye on it and report anything relevant shared by Cygames.
