A new Marvel Champions big box expansion has been announced. Fantasy Flight Games’ living card game has received a lot of ongoing support. In addition to smaller packs introducing eclectic characters like Spider-Ham and The Hood, there have been several major expansions with new mechanics featuring the X-Men and the Spider-Verse respectively. This sixth campaign expansion, Marvel Champions Next Evolution, will mark the debut of iconic characters of X-Force.
Marvel Champions Next Evolution Summary
According to Fantasy Flight’s website, Marvel Champions Next Evolution will introduce new characters and scenarios based on the X-Force comics. The narrative scenarios revolve around the capture of Hope Summers, and begin with an attack on the sewer-dwelling Morlocks defending themselves from another mutant group, the Marauders. The threats escalate into a battle with the unstoppable Juggernaut, the perpetually scheming Mister Sinister, and the deadly psionic powerhouse Stryfe.
In addition, there are two new heroes in Marvel Champions Next Evolution, complete with pre-built decks. The first is Cable, the time-traveling mutant warrior. In keeping with his origins, Cable cards are a mix of tactical strategies like Call For Backup and Establish Perimeter, as well as psionic support like Precognition and Mindscan. He also has a unique player-side scheme card called Technovirus Purge. Player-side schemes are optional missions players can undertake while facing the enemy. If you pay their cost, play the card, then fulfill the objectives listed, you’ll gain a permanent benefit. In Cable’s case, it gives him the Psionic trait and a buff to his powers.
Alternatively, there is the assassin Domino with her luck-manipulating powers. In keeping with her powers, Domino’s cards are all about manipulating the deck and hand. These include her character’s ability to swap a card from your hand with the top card of your deck once per round as well as card effects like Luck Be A Lady and Probability Field. The expansion will also contain support cards featuring other X-Force characters like Diamondback, Wolfsbane, and Deadpool.
Marvel Champions Next Evolution is available for pre-order right now at an MSRP of $44.99. It is set to release on August 18.
