Sony Adding Accessibility Tags to the PlayStation Store on PS5

Today Sony Interactive Entertainment announced a new feature coming to the PlayStation Store, Accessibility Tags.

The new feature, announced on the official PlayStation Blog, allows game developers to include details on the accessibility aids supported by their games directly on their game hub on PS5.

By pressing the triangle button you can expand a list that will include selected tags among over fifty available to developers to identify the accessibility features included in the game. Below you can check a number of examples.

  • Visual accessibility features, such as clear text, large text, color alternatives, audio cues and directional audio indicators.
  • Audio features, such as volume controls, mono audio, screen reader and visual cue alternatives.
  • Subtitle and caption options, including subtitle size, clear captions, and large captions.
  • Control options, including button remapping, thumbstick sensitivity, and ability to play without button holds, rapid button presses or motion control.
  • Gameplay options, such as difficulty settings, skippable puzzles, simplified quick time events, and game speed.
  • Online communication options, such as text or voice chat transcription and ping communication.

The tags will be visible for both PS5 games and PS4 games, but apparently only on PS5. You can also compare the accessibility features between the PS5 and PS4 versions of the same game where applicable.

The feature will roll out this week and some of the games that support it include Days Gone, Death Stranding Director’s Cut, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, God of War, God of War Ragnarök, Gran Turismo 7, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal. More will be added over time.

This follows the reveal of Project Leonardo, an upcoming accessibility-focused controller unveiled back in January.
