Today Square Enix released an extensive video about its massively anticipated new Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy XVI.
The video includes a discussion between Producer Naoki Yoshida, Localization Director Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, and the English voice actor for the game’s hero, Clive Rosfield, Ben Starr.
You may know the actor for his roles in Jamestown and Dickensian and today we get to hear a lot of details about his work on Clive. As a reminder, the hero is voiced in Japanese by Yuya Uchida.
You can watch the video below.
If you’re unfamiliar with Final Fantasy XVI, it’s the next mainline game of the ultra-popular fantasy series by Square Enix. The game’s development is spearheaded by many developers from the Final Fantasy XIV team, which certainly isn’t shocking considering the success of the latest MMORPG of the series, which has passed 27 million registered accounts worldwide as of last year.
Within the team, fans may be familiar with producer Naoki Yoshida, director Hiroshi Takai, writer and creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro, artist Hiroshi Minagawa, composer Masayoshi Soken, and many other well-known names.
The game will present a darker interpretation of the Final Fantasy concept, accompanied by a fully action-based battle system. However, players can still expect the inclusion of traditional elements from the series, including summons, Chocobos, and Moogles.
The scheduled release date exclusively for the PS5 is June 22, 2023, and the game has already gone gold. A PC version is also likely coming at some point, albeit there is no official release date for it at the moment.
While we wait, you can also take a look at plenty of gameplay shown at PAX East more showcased during a State of Play presentation a few weeks ago, and even more clips published by Square Enix last week. We also got the reveal of the game’s theme song by Kenshi Yonezu, titled “Moongazing.”
