Horizon Forbidden West Sales Stand At 8.4 Million, More Horizon Games Coming

Guerrilla Games has revealed that Horizon Forbidden West sales have topped 8.4 million around the world, and that the franchise as a whole has managed to sell 32.7 million units. The studio also says that more adventures in the world of Horizon are coming.

Reflecting on 20 years of Guerrilla in a new PlayStation Blog entry, studio director Jan-Bart van Beek says that “PlayStation’s subscription services and initiatives” have allowed more gamers to discover the Horizon franchise. He says that services like PlayStation Plus and Play at Home have been instrumental in the franchise’s popularity, and that these sales figures are “a milestone we never imagined possible twenty years ago”.

When Guerrilla’s Angie Smets jumped ship to join PlayStation Studios last month, Guerrilla said that “Aloy’s next adventure” was already in development. The new PlayStation Blog post reaffirms this, with van Beek confirming that “Aloy’s adventures will continue”. We already know there’s a multiplayer game of some kind in the works, but this hopefully means that a big single-player game is also coming.

Guerrilla also released a new “Celebrating 20 Years” trailer that shows off some of the studio’s accomplishments and looks ahead to its future. You can check that trailer out here.

Horizon Forbidden West‘s sales figures, and the sales figures for the franchise in general, will likely bolster Guerrilla’s confidence, especially given that Forbidden West is a PlayStation exclusive and isn’t available on PC (yet). The game hasn’t quite managed to match the astonishing performance of Elden Ring or Hogwarts Legacy, but those are multi-platform releases.

It’s also worth noting that this data only goes up to April 16th, so while it does include the PSVR 2 game Horizon Call of the Mountain, it doesn’t take into account sales of Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores. We’ll have to wait a little longer to see how that DLC pans out for Guerrilla.

What’s next for the Horizon franchise remains to be seen, so we’ll be watching Guerrilla’s next move with bated breath. You can check out Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation consoles right now, and don’t forget to take a look at our guides to take the edge off Aloy’s trip across the robo-dino-infested USA.
