Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt Development To End After Next Update

Sharkmob has announced that it’s ending development support for the bloodthirsty battle royale game Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt. Support will end after the game’s next major update, although Sharkmob will continue to maintain the servers and support Bloodhunt‘s community in other ways.

On the official Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt website, Sharkmob lays out its plans for the game’s future (or lack thereof). According to Sharkmob, the game hasn’t “been able to reach the critical mass needed to sustain development”, despite an “amazing and very engaged community”. To put it simply, there just aren’t enough people playing Bloodhunt anymore.

While development will stop, Bloodhunt‘s servers will remain actively maintained “for as long as [Sharkmob has] an active player base and community”. In addition, the developer is promising a rather interesting-sounding player voting system wherein players will regularly unlock new content that’s been voted on by the community at large. It’s not clear how this system will work yet, but Sharkmob says it’ll share more info as the final Bloodhunt update nears.

Sorry, my vampiric friend, but I don’t think that shield blocks the end of development support for your game.

Sharkmob says you won’t be able to buy in-game currency with real-world money anymore starting from September 26th. Prior to this change, though, the in-game token system will be tweaked so that it’s easier to unlock cosmetics without real-world money. Hey, at least you’ll still be able to get your vampire battle royale fix, right?

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt was released back in April last year. It’s a battle royale take on the popular Vampire: The Masquerade universe, featuring many of the same clans and powers you’ll be familiar with if you’ve encountered that world before.

Despite updates bringing new modes and other features, it seems like the game just hasn’t managed to sustain the player base it needs to survive. Not enough regular player transfusions, you might say. In any case, you can still play Bloodhunt for free right now on PC and PS5.
