SEGA has just announced a partnership with JAKKS Pacific, a leading designer and manufacturer of toys, to create a new line of Sonic the Hedgehog merchandise for the Sonic Prime Netflix series. Fans can get their hands on more collectibles themed around the blue blur sometime next year.
SEGA of America and JAKKS Pacific announced this partnership in a press release sent out today, marking another collaborative effort between the two companies. JAKKS will be in charge of making and releasing merchandise such as action figures, playsets, vehicles, plush toys, and more. Meanwhile, JAKKS has assigned its subsidiary Disguise, Inc. as its official costume and costume accessory partner, with distribution rights across the globe. JAKKS and Disguise will have this merchandise available worldwide sometime in 2023.
Craig Drobis, the Senior VP of Marketing at JAKKS Pacific, said:
SEGA has done a tremendous job telling the story of Sonic through a multitude of medium forums.” In addition to the high-octane video games they continue to release and the Sonic Movie 2 coming next year, Sonic Prime’s premier on Netfix in 2022 will keep fans engaged with the property and give JAKKS a whole new Sonic multiverse to explore through toys and costumes. Our customers are not just kids, but also collectors, and this brand consistently hits the mark with retailers and fans year after year.
As for the show itself, Sonic Prime is the latest TV show featuring the blue blur, and the show is described as a “high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in [Sonic’s] gloved hands.” It’s been announced about a year ago in February, and we don’t have too many concrete details about the show. However, there was some leaked concept art showing off some of the multiverse elements viewers can expect from the show. Sonic Prime is set to release sometime this year.
