It’s been almost ten years since Guild Wars 2 was released, all the way back in 2012. Since then, there’s been two expansions: Heart of Thorns in October 2015, and Path of Fire in September 2017. More than four years later, players are finally receiving a new Guild Wars expansion as End of Dragons is releasing on February 28, 2022.
End of Dragons marks the culmination of a lot of work on ArenaNet’s part. Last year’s roadmap included DirectX11 implementation and in-game World vs. World Alliances server restructuring, which was a very big deal for those who have been struggling with their FPS and latency over the past decade. That’s over and done with, now, so let’s take a look at what’s included in End of Dragons, shall we?
What can I look forward to in Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons?
End of Dragons takes place on the mysterious continent of Cantha, which is a region of the world that’s been shrouded in secrecy for more than 200 years. Over the course of their journey, players will discover the secrets behind dragonjade, a substance that powers the unique technology behind the Canthan civilizaiton.
There will be new horizonal options for gameplay. This includes fishing skriffs-multiplayer sailing vessels available for groups of five players-and the game’s first co-operative combat mount, the siege turtle, which gives players the ability to travel the world and fight with a friend on a turtle, which is pretty cool.
There’s also nine elite specializations that change the core gameplay of the game’s professions, and the large-scale open world events that made Guild Wars 2 famous will return throughout the new map areas, which will apparently provide “near immense replayability.” I guess we’ll have to wait to see on that one.
