We now know when to expect the My Time at Sandrock multiplayer playtest, as it’s set to launch on January 12th at 10PM Eastern. It will last a week, so it’ll run from the 12th to the 19th, and the full update will be launched into Early Access in early 2023 if “the playtest runs well”, so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for that. This is still a bit of a delay from what we were originally told, but considering the circumstances the developers have gone through, it’s completely understandable.
If you participate in the multiplayer events that will be available during this playtest, you’ll be able to win “amazing Early Access rewards” that can be redeemed later, which is a pretty nice bonus. Basically, you’ll get some cool cosmetics or something similar and the devs will get valuable information they can use to polish up the multiplayer.
As for accessing the multiplayer, if you already own My Time at Sandrock, you’ll be able to select the multiplayer after launching the game. Once you do, you’ll arrive at The Builders Plaza and you’ll be able to invite up to 3 friends for a total of 4 players. Together, you’ll all be able to work, build, dive, fight, and delve into dungeons.
The storyline for the multiplayer involves heading into a compressed version of Sandrock history courtesy of technology invented by Dr. Qi. There will be familiar faces from the single-player storylines that you can meet, as well as historical events that you can see, which is an interesting idea.
Newly added to this open playtest are extra monsters, planting and mounting systems, a town management system, and an increase in the max commerce level. You’ll be able to unlock more multiplayer quests and features as you level, so the content will keep coming.
