Nintendo has announced that it will open another official store in Japan. Nintendo Kyoto will indeed be located in the company’s hometown.
According to the announcement, the store will open on October 17, 2023. It’ll be the third in the country following Nintendo Tokyo in the trendy Shibuya ward and Nintendo Osaka.
It’ll be located in the new “T8” specialty store area within the popular Kyoto Takashimaya department store, which is a rather convenient location in front of the Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station.
The choice of city is certainly interesting considering that Nintendo Osaka (which is in the Daimaru Umeda department store within the city’s main station) is just about 40 minutes away by train. That being said, it’s not so surprising considering that Kyoto is Nintendo’s own hometown.
With tourism picking back up after the removal of the restrictions enforced during the Covid-19 pandemic, Kyoto is going to be an increasingly popular destination once again, and many tourists will likely be happy to enjoy some Nintendo-themed shopping.
Considering that Osaka is also the location of the Super Nintendo World park within Universal Studios Japan, the area may become a primary hub for fans of Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon visiting Japan, rivaling Tokyo, which has the first Nintendo Store and multiple Pokemon Center locations.
