Next Naughty Dog Game Will Be Made Collaboratively “Like A TV Show”

In a recent interview with The New Yorker, the Co-President of Naughty Dog Neil Druckmann has taken to Twitter to clarify some misconceptions about their next game being “structured more like a TV show”.

Neil Druckmann spoke to the New Yorker about the upcoming television show adaptation of the popular game The Last of Us and briefly mentioned that their next project that is already being worked on in the writing room would be “more like a TV show”, which gave fans the impression the next game would lack gameplay. Fans read this interview as Druckmann stating that the game would be more of a visual novel, with one fan even remarking that they just love the idea of having to watch a game rather than play it (which was very obviously sarcasm).

Of course, many other fans of Naughty Dog and their games felt the same way and took this information as the next game not being really, well, playable per se. This is when Neil Druckmann decided to set the record straight by tweeting,

“I’m sure no one will misconstrue what this means!  (Spoiler: it’s about making our games in an even more collaborative manner! Stoked to show you our projects as soon as we can!)”

Now, it goes without saying that reading the New Yorker interview can definitely make it seem like the upcoming game might be a visual novel of sorts. Mainly, their Tweet that was posted by @thegameawards makes it seem heavily like this would be the case, as they stated “In a New Yorker profile, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann says his next game is “structured more like a TV show” than anything else Naughty Dog had made. A writers room has been assembled.” This may be clickbait, or it may be just improper wording, but either way, it gave off the wrong impression. Luckily, Druckmann took it in stride and made sure to let the fans know that this upcoming game would created in a more collaborative way. What he seems to be saying is that the game would be created with multiple writers and a team rather than a solo effort, making the process of creation more like a television show, not the game itself.
