Genshin Impact Celebrates Lunar New Year With Beautiful Cutscene & Moving Story Teaser

Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse hails from China, so it’s obvious that the Lunar New year is of particular importance to them. Today they are celebrating with the release of not one, but two videos.

The first video focuses on the Lantern Rite to celebrate the new year, and features many of the game’s characters as they celebrate in their own way. Among them, we see Xinyan and Hu Yao providing a small musical performance. The choice of characters likely isn’t random as Xinyan is included in the current event wishes, while Hu Tao will return with the next round on February 7

You can check it out below, and you can also watch the Japanese version, which comes with a great musical performance by the two characters’ voice actresses Chiaki Takahashi and Rie Takahashi.

While the Lantern Rite cutscene can certainly be emotional, the next video may hit you right in the feels. It’s a story teaser going deep into the game’s history and shedding more light on Guizhong, the deceased goddess of dust and good friend of Madame Ping and Zhongli.

If you’re unfamiliar with Genshin Impact, it’s currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android. A Nintendo Switch version has been announced a long time ago, but HoYoverse has gone under the radar with it and has not said anything since despite confirming multiple times that it hasn’t been canceled. We’ll have to wait and see if 2023 will finally be the year of Genshin on Nintendo’s console.

We’re currently on update 3.4, but we already know the characters coming with update 3.5, which should be released around February 28. This slightly longer wait for the next version shouldn’t surprise you, as the Chinese New Year celebrations are usually quite disruptive on work schedules in the country.
