The gameplay trailer for The Day Before has been revealed during the Nvidia Conference, and with it, we see what type of zombie-slaying action to anticipate from the title.
The Day Before was first announced on January 27, 2021, as the developers at FNTASTIC showed some of the key features of the game. Later on down the line in October of 2021, it was revealed that the game would be available for players to purchase on June 21, 2022, which turned out not to be the case. The game was delayed due to the change in the engine. The devs decided Unreal Engine 4 just wasn’t cutting it, and they wanted to bring the game to the masses using Unreal Engine 5. This is no easy feat, as you almost have to start from scratch when starting on an entirely new engine, but the devs said they would make this transition as “seamless as possible”.
Now, after all of the changes to the engine, graphic design updates that fit modern standards, and some fine-tuning, we have the product we see in front of us in the trailer. The developers stated that they wanted to focus more on sound quality and immersion rather than a screen filled with HUD elements. This allows players to really feel the environment around them as they traverse the world within The Day Before. The sound of the zombies charging toward you is enough to make your skin crawl, which is a great feature in a survival horror such as this.
We now know that the game is set to release on March 1, 2023, but as with any release this could be subject to change. Hopefully, there will be no further delays, but game development is volatile and takes time to perfect and tweak to the best of the developers’ ability.
