Today Sega released another trailer for its new mobile JRPG 404 Game Re:Set, directed by NieR creator Yoko Taro.
The trailer introduces another of the girls who will be playable in the game, Fantasy Zone. Like Out Run, After Burner, Virtua Cop, andVirtua Fighter, for whom we already saw trailers, she’s basically the waifu version of the 1986 arcade game.
She is voiced by Nichika Omori, who voiced Impero in Azur Lane.
If you’re familiar with Japanese games and media, you likely won’t be too shocked by the concept of turning pretty much anything they can think of into girls. Japan’s pop culture has brought us catgirls, shipgirls, airplane girls, horsegirls, game console girls… and now we get video game girls. With Yoko Taro at the helm, that’s really not a shocker.
You can check out the trailer below.
If you’re unfamiliar with 404 Game Re:Set, also known as Error Game Reset, it’s an upcoming mobile JRPG born of a partnership between Sega and Yoko Taro recently announced after a mysterious tease portraying a dystopian version of the world.
It’s for iOS and Android and free-to-play, which means that it also comes with the inevitable gacha, which explains why Sega is taking its beloved franchises like Out Run, After Burner, Virtua Cop, and Virtua Fighter, and turning them into waifus you can unlock.
They will form a resistance against a distorted world in which Sega itself has taken over. It’s Yoko Taro all right. At the moment, a western release for this game has not been announced. We’ll see if Sega will decide to bring it over down the line.
