Today Capcom announced the opening of the applications for the “Capcom Orico Card ~Dragon’s Dogma~.”
If you’re wondering, it’s exactly what it says on the tin, a credit card bearing the game’s key visual celebrating the 10th anniversary of its release.
It belongs to the domestic JCB circuit and it’s free for the first year while you’ll pay 1,375 yen annually (about 10 bucks) for the second year and beyond.
Those who apply will also receive a free Dragon’s Dogma smartphone ring until May 31, 2023, which you can see below.
You can also accumulate points by making purchases with the credit card, letting you grab a Dragon’s Dogma alarm clock with 800 points. You get a point for every 1,000 yen you spend.
This is actually not the first Capcom Orico Card released, as another was launched featuring Mega Man.
Credit cards featuring video games, anime, or other pop culture icons are not rare in Japan, where many are a bit intimidated by expressing their love for this kind of hobby in very visible ways like T-shirts. Whipping out a credit card or wearing a subtle accessory showing your fandom is a lot more acceptable within the country’s societal standards.
If you’re unfamiliar with the original Dragon’s Dogma, it was released all the way back in 2012 for PS3 and Xbox 360. An enhanced and expanded version titled Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen was then launched in 2013 for the same platforms in 2016 for PC, in 2017 for PS4 and Xbox One, and finally in 2019 for the Switch. A free-to-play MMORPG named simply Dragon’s Dogma Online launched for PS4, PS3, and PC in 2015, but never made it outside of Japan before it was shut down in 2019.
Back in June last year, a sequel has been announced and it’s currently in the works under the direction of Hideaki Itsuno utilizing the power of Capcom’s own RE Engine. We haven’t heard a word about it since, so we don’t know when it’ll be released.
