Strayed Lights Gets New Demo & Vibrant Trailer

Today independent developer Embers Games announced that a demo has been released for its upcoming action-adventure Strayed Lights.

The demo is available only for PC via Steam at the moment, albeit the game is also coming for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on April 25.

The demo is said to provide a good look at the game’s peculiar gameplay mechanics and story. At the moment, we don’t know whether it’ll ever be released on other platforms.

On top of the demo, we also get a new trailer that provides a look at Strayed Lights’ vibrant worlds on top of a sample of the soundtrack composed by Austin Wintory.

You can check out the trailer below.

The press release included a comment from creative director and Embers co-founder Alexandre Arramon:

“We are thrilled to be able to share our new gameplay trailer and demo with fans of Strayed Lights. We’ve been working hard to create a game that is both engaging and visually outstanding, and we can’t wait for players to experience it for themselves.”

The combat system mentioned above is certainly interesting, focusing on a timing and color-based mechanic. Both you and the enemies switch between orange and blue, and hits can be landed only when the target has the other color up, while the same color generates a block. This means that you need to switch color dynamically in order to deal damage and avoid being damaged yourself.

Strayed Light also promises “an intricate world imbued with mystery.” The story evolves from the main character’s childhood to adulthood, and it also focuses on helping and soothing the bosses as opposed to just defeating them.

If you’d like to see more, you can check out another gameplay trailer and the reveal trailer which debuted back in January.
