New information has come out for Warhammer: The Old World. Announced back in November 2019, this tabletop miniatures game is a revival of Games Workshop’s Warhammer Fantasy Battle game from 1983. In many ways, the game was the foundation for the more aesthetically audacious Warhammer Age of Sigmar, and the grimdark sci-fi franchise that is Warhammer 40,000. Now, in a new development diary, Games Workshop has given players a look at the plastic models for Warhammer: The Old World weapons.
The Warhammer: The Old World development diary
The new development diary post focuses on the plastic weapon models for the Bretonnians and Tomb Kings of Khemri from Warhammer: The Old World. Starting with the Bretonnians, the post showcases several different shields as well as helmet models. Typically, the helmets will take on the appearance of the heraldry associated with the family the army served. The helmets shown are adorned with deer antlers, bird feathers, and even a dragon crest. As for weapons, the Bretonnians have some reliable options like the battleaxe and several variations of longswords.
Alternatively, the Tomb Kings of Khemri’s weapons are more ornate. The designs include a spear with wings protruding from the shaft, a spiked flail with a scarab symbol on the handle, a large bladed halberd for sundering armor, a curved khopesh, a ceremonial staff with skull and bone designs, and a decorated shield with skulls on and wings on the front. The designs are noticeably more restrained compared to the excessive detail of Age of Sigmar’s models, but they manage to convey an army that commands the undead while still having functional weapons of war. Even the use of scarabs are common icons in Khemri, sometimes referred to as The Scarab City.
There still is no official release date for Warhammer: The Old World.
