Eagle Dynamic provided an update about the development of the upcoming F-4 Phantom for DCS World by popular developer Heatblur.
We learn that the Phantom is “approaching completion” and will soon be unveiled ahead of the aircraft’s early access release.
The following systems have been completed or will be completed soon.
- Professional Flight Modeling (PFM)
- APQ-120 radar and associated systems, based on a next generation physically based radar model
- Weapons Systems
- Flight control, trim feel and autopilot systems, accurately simulating pilot strength stick feel-dynamics
- APR-46 RHAW radar warning receiver, a physically based analogue receiver with analogue sound synthesis
- Mass Dynamics Systems, providing far more accurate and realistic simulation of all movable and physical components of an aircraft
- Persistence and Wear Systems
The team at Heatblur is currently focused on completing some of the last major features needed for the release, including the overhauled JESTER v2 AI copilot.
Below you can take a look at a few juicy screenshots.
If you’re unfamiliar with Heatblur, they’re the creators of the super-popular F-14 Tomcat on which they’re also working for Microsoft Flight Simulator. On top of that, they’re creating a Euofighter Typhoon for DCS:
DCS World is currently available only for PC and the base simulator can be downloaded for free (properly “free” in this case) either via the developer’s own site or Steam. If you’d like to see more, you can also enjoy the trailer teasing what Eagle Dynamics has in store for 2023 and beyond on top of the recent news about multi-threading implementation. Speaking of third-party developers, Razban is getting ready to release the early access of the F-15E Strike Eagle.
