Today Naughty Dog took to Twitter to acknowledge issues that have been affecting the recently released PC version of The Last of Us Part I.
The post mentions that the developer is aware that “some” users have not experienced the quality they would expect from a Naughty Dog game, and promised a hotfix on Tuesday and a larger patch later in the week, on top of encouraging users to use the latest video card drivers.
The Last of Us Part I PC players: We know some of you have not experienced the Naughty Dog quality you expected. Our team is working hard to resolve issues currently preventing some of you from experiencing the game to ensure it reaches the quality level you expect and deserve.
A hotfix addressing jittering on mouse-controlled camera movement, some crashes, and more for The Last of Us Part I on PC is slated for Tuesday. A larger patch with additional fixes will be deployed later in the week.
We also encourage players to ensure you are using the latest Nvidia, AMD, and Intel graphics drivers. Our team, and our dedicated partners at Iron Galaxy will continue to investigate and address known issues to deliver the great The Last of Us Part I experience you expect.
Hopefully this will serve as a learning experience for Naughty Dog, which has pledged to continue engaging in PC development going forward. At the moment, the game has “Mixed” reviews on Steam, which is certainly not flattering for a game by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s acclaimed first-party studio.
If you’re unfamiliar with The Last of Us, it’s an ultra-popular post-apocalyptic adventure game that was originally released by Naughty Dog in 2013 for PS3 and then remastered for PS4 only a year after. The remake titled The Last of Us Part I was then released for PS5 last year, and it launched on PC today.
A sequel, titled The Last of Us Part II was released to critical acclaim for PS4 in 2020, while Naughty Dog is currently working on a multiplayer title set in the franchise’s world about which we know very little, but is said to be one of the developer’s most ambitious projects and more news have been promised for later this year.
A TV show has recently debuted on HBO and HBO Max, and it has been met with widespread praise from critics and fans. It has been renewed for season 2 after just two episodes were aired, which is definitely a testament to its success and to how loved the franchise is by its fans.
