No, “Snake Eater” Recording Starring Donna Burke Isn’t for a Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake

Earlier today, Australian singer Donna Burke posted on Twitter a series of images of a recording session for “Snake Eater,” triggering widespread speculation among Metal Gear Solid fans.

While the tweets did not mention any involvement with any game, many speculated that the recording was done for a rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. Said speculation was rather enthusiastically amplified by a number of media outlets.

Unfortunately, many of these articles failed to consider or mention the fact that the recording of a song doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s for a game, and artists are often involved in musical projects that are indeed unrelated to the creation of new games.

More importantly, unannounced games are under strict NDAs, so it’s extremely unlikely that a veteran singer like Burke would tease a remake in this manner.

In fact, composer Mason Lieberman, who directed the recording session, clarified that it’s unrelated to any Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. If I had to guess, it’s likely to be a separate musical project. That’s really not a rarity in the world of music, including video game soundtracks.

Unfortunately, it isn’t rare for media to misinterpret and misrepresent social media posts by industry professionals without context. We should likely keep in mind that lacking precise context, the interpretation most convenient to write a juicy rumor article is often not the correct one.

The good news is that whatever this is, it’ll probably be good, given Donna Burke’s talent.
