Sci-Fi RTS/FPS Hybrid Silica Looks Really Promising in New Gameplay

Today Bohemia Interactive presented new gameplay of the upcoming hybrid between real-time strategy game and first-person shooter Silica.

We get to take a look at how the human faction plays, starting with the strategy part of the game that may very well remind you of Dune or Starcraftwhich the developer Martin Melichárek explicitly cites as sources of inspiration.

Base building and harvesting certainly feel very familiar, but the game takes on its own twist when we see the FPS part, in which we can take control of a single soldier or vehicle on the battlefield. It certainly looks very fetching and promising, and you can watch it below.

If you’re unfamiliar with Silica, it’ll come soon in early access exclusively for PC. It was born several years ago as a solo project and recently taken under the wing of Bohemia Interactive Incubator project, with the popular developer of the Arma series providing support.

Below you can read an official description of what you can expect.

“Silica is a crossover of FPS and RTS where up to 3 factions battle for control over the planet of Baltarus. Lead from above as Commander, or experience the action first-hand, either alone or with friends. Join one of two human armies, or hunt them down as the territorial aliens. Silica takes place in the scorching deserts of Baltarus, an exoplanet located thousands of light-years from Earth. Lead your faction to victory in Strategy, the flagship game mode. Harvest the Balterium hidden in the sands or defend Baltarus from the invading humans as an insect-like alien.”
