Pokemon Go Introduces Super Tiny And Super Huge Pokemon

Have you ever wanted to catch a petite Poochyena or a massive Mawile? Well, thanks to two new Pokemon Go sizes, you can do just that. XXS and XXL Pokemon can now be found in the wild, although at the moment, the new sizing has only been observed in three species.

According to an official Pokemon Go blog announcement, “Pokemon such as Poochyena, Mightyena, and Mawile” have been observed sporting new XXS and XXL sizes, meaning they’ll either be extra-tiny or extra-large. Other Pokemon “may have undiscovered sizes” too, per the post, so you’ll have to keep an eye out for tiny or huge ‘mons on your journey.

When you encounter an XXS or XXL Pokemon, the game will notify you with a message. You’ll also be able to physically see that they’re smaller or larger than the average. The Pokedex will now track Pokemon sizes, and it’ll show your record for the smallest and largest member of the species you’ve caught. You’ll need to catch at least three of a certain species before you can start setting records, though.

Your Pokedex will now show you the smallest and largest member of a species you’ve caught in Pokemon Go. Aww.

You’ll also now receive a new celebratory message whenever you break a record, so if you catch an XXS or XXL Pokemon (or a smaller XS or XL Pokemon than previously), you’ll get a cute little “new record!” window pop up. All in all, this isn’t the kind of update that’s going to transform your Pokemon Go experience, but it should give you something fun to aim towards or to keep an eye out for.

Elsewhere in Pokemon Go, the game’s ninth content season is underway, having launched in late November. It’ll see the introduction of Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre, as well as lots of new events and raids for Pokemon like Gen 5’s Swords of Justice legendaries and Mega Evolved versions of the Gen 3 starters. All of this should give you something to look forward to if you’re taking a break from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s first ranked season.
